Value Study

Drawing I | Spring 2023

For this project, I focused on practicing tonal depth using black colored pencil and ink while observing several objects arranged on a Strathmore pad. I created two 11” x 14” drawings: one in colored pencil and one in ink.

This assignment helped me deepen my understanding of value and value techniques in drawing. I explored how light interacts with form and worked on refining my perceptual grid and overall drawing process, starting with a gesture sketch. These studies allowed me to enhance my technical skills while capturing tonal variations with precision.

Textural Expressions

Foundational Design Studies | Fall 2022

Fall 2022

This project elaborated on previous ideation stages based on photographs of texture. My photographs contained close-up images of wood bark, aloe vera in a container, a textured rug, and more. My final drawing was created with a stippling technique and lines with varying thickness to communicate the various textures in my inspiration photos. I overall focused on the communication of movement, texture, and variety.

Color Study

Drawing I | Spring 2023

For this project, I applied color to all the drawing fundamentals I developed throughout the semester in Drawing I. I began by setting up my own still life using a Minecraft fox stuffed animal. My composition reflects my understanding of complementary colors, both in the overall color scheme and in the subtle shading techniques; the background colors are complementary to the color of the subject. This piece also demonstrates my ability to combine technical drawing skills with a thoughtful exploration of color theory.
