Simplifying your
Kitchen Experience

User Experience Prototyping and Methodologies | Iowa State University | Fall 2024
Overview
This project stems from my idea for an app or website that assists college students or those newer to cooking with finding recipes attuned to their preferences, allergies, and ingredient availability. I tested my lo-fi prototype with five different individuals and the project is currently in the process of applying notes from testing to the hi-fi prototype.
Check out the prototype in Figma here
Problem
The task of finding a recipe online with a limited budget, access to ingredients, and skill level is a problem well-known by any college student, new mom, full time worker, etc. Current recipe websites are often extremely hard to navigate, with jumbles of text and illogical ordering of information. Switching through multiple apps and website, scrambling through the pantry and fridge, and struggling to find recipes that fit your food restrictions all while losing your appetite are all real struggles of users.
Solution
Kitschy proposes a friendly approach to meal preparation that eases the process, allowing users to be aware of the ingredient availability in their kitchen when browsing recipes and even receive personalized recipes based off of this as well as profile-inputted preferences and food restrictions. After finding a recipe, recipe pages also feature intuitive step-by-step interaction for the user to easily follow steps without getting lost or confused.

The branding for this project was entirely provided by the instructor, so staying consistent to the established brand was the main challenge of this project. The app’s purpose is to view and review movies as well as purchase tickets.
Problem
Viewing movies and purchasing tickets is almost always done in separate apps or websites, causing users to detour from their ticket purchasing apps to find out more about movies. This also derails the potential for personalized recommendations based on what is in theaters— moviegoers will have to find this information themselves.
Solution
With O.K. Films, users can receive personalized suggestions of what tickets to buy based on their ratings and reviews of other films. It essentially combines the purposes of apps like Letterboxd with the apps like Fandango.
