Raising Readers of Story County — Brand Poster

Fall 2025

For this project, I rebranded Raising Readers in Story County, a nonprofit organization focused on providing literacy resources and hosting events for ages 0-5. I highlighted the welcoming and playful aspects of the brand, enhancing what they already had to better invite new volunteers, parents, and children. I also redesigned their website for better usability and visual consistency.


Concept Statement

The Red-spotted Purple butterfly is one of over 100 butterfly species native to Iowa. These butterflies represent transformation and growth. With the symbolization of this butterfly integrated into the branding through imagery and color, Raising Readers can better emphasize their goal of helping children and families in Story County. By nurturing literacy from birth to age five, the organization sparks a transformation that begins in each child, extends to their family, and ultimately strengthens the community as a whole. This powerful branding message will encapsulate the organization’s goals.

Add layers or components to make infinite auto-playing slideshows.

Logos

Icons are used as a forefront of the brand to communicate a variety of messages to our audience, with the intention of communicating in a quick and easy to understand way.

Color Palette

Colors add on from the previous branding system with more secondary colors and brighter hues.

Typography

Handwritten Tomarik combined with rounded and friendly Poppins creates a friendly feeling that is still highly legible and accessible to all eyes.

Bookmarks

Bookmarks to hand out to families at events add to brand recognition and allow children to practice writing their names.

Merchandise

Merchandise for volunteers and families adds to brand recognition throughout Story County.

Dos and Dont's

Logo usage dos and don'ts are valuable for accurate use of branding by client after the brand is delivered.

Social Media

Posts that stick to certain layouts will create a clean and concise theme for social media accounts for the organization.
